Well, i can't agree on many of these myths about battery, its charging cycles and overcharging !
So i will start with my own experience with one device that i bought in 2012 as a gift to university student, the laptop was symbolic gift as entry point for learning to use computer to person who never used one !, it was Eee PC 1225C.
That device had Windows 7 home and i stripped it down to its minimum, leaving few things and the MS Office, and blocked updates, as over years i cleaned it up many times and restored its
OS, had viruses many times, but most importantly the battery was holding around 7 hours in 2012, the girl (the owner) got her master and went to work as teacher in the college using only this small and slow PC, and still to this day, she followed my advice then to use it on battery as minimum and always keep it plugged in, today the same battery still hold the PC little more than 4 hours ! yes i know what i am saying it is 12 years of using the PC and it still looking good with no scratches, the battery was the extended one it is somehow thicker than than the flat one, the owner used it almost daily for 12 years between 30minutes and 10 hours, she used it at home and rarely took it to the work, there was many times virus infestation, but since the beginning i installed dual
OS with selecting boot menu for such cases, when one is infected then the other will keep you working,
About dual boot for emergency : when you install another
OS make sure to remove the drive letter for other system from each other, in other words if you have installed second Windows on the third partition drive, then remove the letter of the drive in you main
OS, this will protect it from all sort of viruses even ransomware, as they can't
access it.
Now back to the battery and myths:
1) How you can over charge a battery in +2000, i mean yes you can overcharge your car battery with stupid inverter made in 1960s, though i am not sure about this and how the car battery charger works, but i have 18650 batteries for flash lights that i used like hundreds of times, and they need to be recharged, the charger is so stupid and small yet it stop charging when it is charged and change the led color from red to green, the circuit for such is so simple, and stupid cheap.
2) So many articles are talking about battery charging cycles, it is clear, pretty straight forward and understandable, yet your laptop do work without battery, meaning the power component can and do supply power to the rest of the PC without passing through the battery, here comes the question, if the hardware controlling this part so accurate that can report percent of the power in the battery, while charging and discharging, how it can over charge, or even cause cycling of the power, in other words while your laptop plugged you battery act like it is in storage, will not be used unless lost 1% and it will be charged right away without draining any more from cycles, hence if a laptop lose 1% day without usage, then a cycle will need 100 day.
I really don't understand why there is so many articles miss leading everyone about this, literally they are talking about iron age battery and chargers for laptops, if you take a look about modern solar system inverter/charger manual do tell you that it will not utilize the battery to save its life as long there is power coming from the solar units.
Is solar inverter/charger is more advanced then laptop power controlling
unit? the answer is no, if you want a proof then just open one and see the circuit for your self or ask any professional about this.
