Well, it is not that simple, first when you say it did play, does that mean there was audio ?
Also you didn't answer my question about copying drivers from a device to another, is the laptop faulty or new ... or....
One more thing : audio output is not so linear as you might thing, some video containers and their codecs require to decode the audio with the video at the same time, here comes a previous successful play where the decoder used hardware acceleration (codec) and is failing to find it now, by messed up settings or, again copied setting from different device(like backup and restore)
in all cases, most likely you need to uninstall all the drivers and reinstall them, this at least will narrow the problem, for extra troubleshooting steps refer to
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...a-2535c7cd56c8
Uninstall/delete the drivers from "Audio inputs and outputs" and for extra measure delete for "Sound, Audio and Game controller"
Also what do you see in "mmsys.cpl", is there something strange, and don't forget to check if the most popular formats are available 16bit 44.1k/48k, 24bit is not that important for video playing unless the video does have very exotic codec.
